Volunteer Management System (VMS) codes for reporting our hours:

  • AT (Advanced Training): Training we take
  • CB (Chapter Business): Chapter administrative tasks
  • FR (Field research):  gathering data and reporting; citizen science
  • NPA (Nature Public Access): Helping the public get easier physical access to nature
  • OT (Other): Helping a Partner carry out its own mission, even though not TMN-related
  • PO (Public Outreach): Educating the public informally, where they can walk away
  • RM (Resource Management): Managing natural resources; improving nature
  • TG (Technical Guidance): Providing technical expertise or guidance to a Partner organization
  • TR (Training): Education we provide to the public in a formal, scheduled setting

AT: Online Training Approved online training listed on the Chapter Training Opportunities webpage. Specify training in “Describe your training” when you report.
AT: Single presentation Approved training that is not part of a series or directly related to a project. Example: the annual Welder Wildflower Workshop. Specify in “Describe your training” when you report.
AT: Specific-Project Approved training for a specific Chapter project and, generally, for a specific Partner. Training may include equipment operation, interpretation, or other skills as required. Examples: ANWR-Heavy Equipment training, Matagorda Island Turtle Patrol, WWF-MAPS bird-banding. Specify the partner & project in “Describe your training” when you report. AT: TX Waters Certification trainingApproved training for obtaining Texas Waters Certification
AT: with Chapter Meeting Advanced Training provided in conjunction with Chapter meetings. Please list the title in “Describe your training” when you report. Remember to report meeting attendance separately using CB: Chapter Business.
AT: with State Meet Advanced Training provided in conjunction with the annual TMN meeting. Give the training name in “Describe your training” when you report.
CB: Chapter Business Includes attending chapter meetings and anything that has to do with running the Chapter. Choose the type of work you were doing from the Chapter Administration dropdown (list at right). 

 

For example, staffing our Outreach booth at a public event to tell people about TMN and get new members is “Recruiting.” Participating in an Outreach committee meeting is “Board/Committee Work.”

Note: This category includes performing tasks related to the funding/business aspects of the Chapter plant sale, as opposed to the educational outreach aspects. Examples: buying plants, growing plants, serving as cashier, other money-related operations. Choose “fundraising” from the dropdown.

FR: ANWR research Planning, leading, or participating in data collection, reporting, and/or analysis of natural resources at or for Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Effort may relate to wildlife or vegetation. Specify in “Describe your service” when you report.
FR: Aquatic Life Field research collecting and reporting data for blue crab larvae, phytoplankton, and all other aquatic life, including TPWD gillnet work and fishing surveys. Specify the type of aquatic life or project in “Describe your service” when you report. Combines former FR categories
FR: Bird Populations Collecting and reporting data for bird populations including specific research for a specific partner (ex. MAPS for WWF). Includes whooping crane reports to any agency, Christmas Bird Counts, online reporting to iBird, GBBC, Colonial Waterbirds, TERN, and other reporting at non-partner locations. FR: Insect Life Field research collecting/reporting data for Emerald Ash Borer, Cactus Moth, bark beetles, other insect life studies in future. Specify insect and agency in “Describe your service.” Combines former FR
FR: Mad Island Assisting with any field research at Mad Island Marsh Preserve. Examples: facilitating bird-banding, vegetative surveys. Please specify when you report.
FR: Mission-Aransas NERR Field research collecting and reporting data for Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Examples: Vegetative surveys at Fennessey Ranch, other surveys and various locations requested by the NERR. Specify project and location when you report. Combines former survey work for M‑A NERR
FR: Other Partners Field research (other than Bird Populations work) collecting and reporting data for Partners not separately listed and at various locations. Example: CoCoRaHS – precipitation data. FR: TPWD Field research providing data to TPWD and not reported under other opportunities. Includes Nature-Tracker Watches (Amphibian, Horned Lizard, Monarch butterfly, other), and other projects as they are developed. Specify project and location in “Describe your service.” Combines former FR
FR: Water Quality Field research collecting and reporting data for water quality at various locations and for various organizations. Includes StreamTeam, CRWN, and others. Specify in “Describe your service” when you report. Combines former FR
FR: WWF research Planning, leading, or participating in data collection or analysis for Welder Wildlife Foundation other than MAPS. 
NPA: ANWR Creating or maintaining trails or any other work that eases public access to any Aransas National Wildlife Refuge property. Please specify.
NPA: Aransas Pathways Creating or maintaining trails and other activities that ease public access to nature in Aransas County. NPA: Coleto Creek Planning or performing work at Coleto Creek Park that eases public access to nature. Examples: creating or maintaining trails; developing new public areas.

OT: Partner Organization Performing work that allows a Partner organization to carry out its own mission, even though the work is not related to the TMN mission. Examples: Hummer/Bird vendor setup, signage, or planning meetings not related to education (they indirectly benefit the HBC education mission). Specify partner and activity.
