This Green Heron was successfully stalking fish in shallow water. I was surprised when it moved stealthily up onto a dry bank with apparent resolve—no fish up there! But then I realized what it was after. I now know that Green Herons have a varied diet, and will consume, in addition to fish, invertebrates and insects. Dick Klopshinske identified the dragonfly as an Eastern Pond Hawk.
