Recently MCTMN members had the opportunity of visiting Powderhorn Ranch, one of the largest remaining undisturbed tracts of native coastal prairie habitat left in Texas. A multi-partner coalition including the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation purchased the 17,351-acre Powderhorn Ranch along the Texas coast in Calhoun County. At $37.7 million, it is the largest dollar amount ever raised for a conservation land purchase in Texas and represents a new partnership model of achieving conservation goals in an era of rapidly rising land prices. The acquisition will conserve a spectacular piece of property that is also potential whooping crane habitat.
Norm Hirsch provided us with a few photos of our training, which can be seen in Norm’s photo album on our MCTMN FlickR site.
