MCTMN will be supporting the RETREET organization to plant over 200 trees at local residences in Aransas County to help replace those lost during Hurricane Harvey. All trees being donated are native to the area. If you’d like to help with this project, there are two ways to get involved:
Team Locate—meet with local residents to plan where to put their new trees Nov 9–13. Each Team Member will be given a list of residents to assist. All you need to do is contact the resident, assist with finding the right location for the tree in their yard, mark the spot, and make sure they have instructions for caring for the new tree. We’d also like to get some selfies of you with the happy homeowners. At the end of your shift, you’ll just take a picture of your updated list indicating what kind of tree goes to each residence along with any notes you took and forward it to the RETREET staff. We could use 6-8 folks to help with this effort.
Team Plant—Saturday, November 16 from noon to 5:30 pm. All trees will have been delivered to the appropriate residences the previous day. We’ll meet at the Rockport Airport and be directed where to go from there. These are 15-gallon trees, so there will be some shovel work involved. We need folks who can assist with ensuring that trees are planted to the right depth and that clean-up is completed before moving on to the next site. RETREET has experienced arborists to provide instructions.
Additional information is available on the RETREET website.
Report volunteer time for this project as RM: Other Locations. Please put Aransas County in the description.
