Bauer Exhibit Building, Calhoun Co Fairgrounds—186 County Road 101, Port Lavaca, TX 77979

From Tivoli and south, travel 18.8 miles north on TX Hwy 35. From Port Lavaca, travel south on TX 35 0.3 miles from the intersection with US Hwy 87. Turn off State Highway 35 onto CR 101 at green “Calhoun County Fairgrounds” highway sign across Hwy 35 from the Holiday Motel and Lee Tire/CarQuest businesses. Continue on CR 101 0.8 miles and turn right. The Bauer Exhibit Building will be on your right.

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

From Rockport/Fulton at the Copano Bay bridge, take TX 35 north 15.6 miles to the flashing light on FM 774. Turn right onto FM 774 and go approximately 9 miles to FM 2040. Turn right and follow FM 2040 for about 7 miles to the refuge entrance. From Tivoli, take TX 35 south 1.5 miles to FM 239. Turn left onto FM 239, go through Austwell, and follow the ANWR signs to 774 and 2040. At ANWR, go to the Wildlife Interpretive Center (main building).

Welder Wildlife Foundation

From the intersection of Texas highways 188, 181, and 89 east of Sinton, turn onto TX 89 and travel 2.0 miles to US 77. Turn right to enter the ramp onto US Hwy 77 north. Go 6.1 miles on 77 to the white Spanish-style gatehouse entrance to Welder. From Refugio, go south on US 77 17.1 miles from the intersection of 77 and Alt 77/183.

Turn at the white Spanish-style gatehouse and wait at the gate for the Welder escort.

Mad Island Marsh Preserve

From Port Lavaca, travel north on TX 35 through Palacios (Note: TX 35 makes a sharp left curve in Palacios). Approximately 5 miles from Palacios, turn right onto 521. Proceed 5.2 miles on 521 (you’ll cross the Tres Palacios River) to the intersection of FM 1095 at the old Tin Top store. Turn right onto 1095 and travel 4.3 miles. Past the sharp right curve, turn left onto CR 378/Brazos Tower Road. (There is a gray house on the right corner and a brown “Mad Island” sign directly across the intersection). Travel 3 miles on CR 378/Brazos Tower past a sharp right curve. At the next intersection past this curve, turn left onto the dirt road CR 374/AP Ranch Road. There is a Mad Island Wildlife Management Area sign at this intersection. (Note this road is also labeled Franzen Road/373). After turning left onto CR 374, go straight 1.6 miles on this dirt road until it dead-ends at the Mad Island gate. Open the gate and be sure to close it behind you.

Once inside the gate, go straight on this dirt road for 2 miles—do not take the left hand turn to the MI Wildlife Management Area. You will go past a small farm house & a workshop building, a second small dilapidated house, and then through a slough area. Proceed through the prairie/pastures/fields for another mile. Turn right at the Headquarters sign on the right. You will cross another slough area (on warm sunny days, say “Hi” to the alligator). There will be a small intersection where you will have a gate in front of you and no choice but to curve left. Proceed left and travel until this road deadends at the 2-story Lodge building.

UTMSI Lab, Port Aransas

Drive to Aransas Pass and take the ferry to Port Aransas. After leaving the ferry, continue onto West Cotter. After about 0.7 mi, turn left at N. Station St. Turn right onto Channel View Dr and continue about 0.4 mi until you pass a building on the pier on your left. Continue right, around the corner, and park in the auditorium parking lot. Walk out to the lab – the building on the pier. Following the session at the lab, the group will be directed to the R/V Katy for the field portion of the session.

Fulton Harbor—Catch the Skimmer to Matagorda Island

From south of Rockport/Fulton: Take State Highway 35N. Do not take any Rockport exits. Turn right when the highway ends. Travel straight through the light and continue until you come to the water. Look left and you will see the Skimmer a few slips down in the harbor behind Charlotte Plummer’s Restaurant. From the north: Take Highway 35 South and come into the Rockport/Fulton area over a long bridge. After approximately 5 miles you will come to the first traffic light at Cactus Street. Turn left and continue until you come to the water. Look left and you will see the Skimmer in the harbor behind Charlotte Plummer’s

Grover’s Bend, Guadalupe River in Riverside Park, Victoria

Drive into Victoria and enter Riverside Park from Main St, which is also Hwy 87. Turn on Magnolia St, which becomes McCright Dr in the 3200 block of Main. Follow McCright approximately 1.2 miles to Grover’s Bend—107 Lowry Dr., Victoria, TX 77901— on your right.

Formosa-Tejano Wetlands

From Palacios, go west on TX 35 to the intersection of TX 172. Take TX 172 north toward Ganado 6.9 miles to the gate (left) of the Formosa-Tejano Wetlands. From Rockport, go north on TX 35 to TX 172 (approx. 62 miles). Turn left at TX 172 and travel 6.9 miles to the gate on the left. From Victoria, go north on US 59 to the TX 521 Loop toward Edna. Turn right onto TX 111E and travel 10.4 miles to TX 172. Turn right at TX 172S and go 9.1 miles to destination on the right.

Aransas County Library

From north of Rockport, take Business 35 through town. At the Loop 70/Hwy 35 split, stay on 35 for 0.3 mile. Turn left onto Pearl Street and go one block to Aransas County Library, on the left. From south of Rockport, turn off the Hwy 35 Bypass at the FM 1069 exit. At the stop sign, turn right onto FM 1069 and go 1.4 miles to the intersection with Business 35. Turn left onto Business 35 and travel 0.5 mile to Pearl St. Turn right onto Pearl and travel one block. The Aransas County Library is on the left, across Pearl from Green Acres

Aransas County AgriLife Extension Office

GPS address: 892 Airport Road, Rockport TX 78382.

From north of Rockport, take TX Hwy 35 into town. Cross Copano Bay. From the Welcome to Rockport-Fulton sign on the right as you leave the causeway, travel 2.4 miles to Airport Rd, the first street on the right just past the Aransas County airport. Turn right onto Airport Rd and travel 0.3 miles, passing the entrance to the Aransas County Transfer Station on the left. The next driveway on the left is the entrance to the Aransas County AgriLife Extension Office. From south of Rockport, travel to the end of the Hwy 35 Bypass and turn right on FM 3036. Travel 1.2 miles to Business 35. Turn left on Business 35 and travel 1.1 miles to Airport Rd on the left, at the edge of the Aransas County airport. Travel 0.3 miles to the entrance to the Aransas County AgriLife Extension Office on the left.

Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park

The park is located just off U.S. Hwy 59 between Victoria and Goliad. Watch for brown signs for Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park. From the Hwy 59/77 interchange south of Victoria: travel southwest on Hwy 59 6.2 miles. Turn right onto the road into the park. From the U.S. 183 (Alt 77)/Hwy 59 intersection in Goliad: travel northeast on Hwy 59 13.4 miles to the park entrance and turn left. On the park road, travel 0.4 mile to park headquarters. After you have checked in, proceed 0.4 miles and turn left at the “Campgrounds” sign. Travel down that road to the meeting location—Pavilion C, the first building on your right.

Bay Education Center, Rockport

From the north: Take Hwy 35, and then Business 35 to Rockport. Business 35 will become Broadway. In town, the road will fork; bear left at the light to stay on Broadway, following signs to the Chamber of Commerce. Turn left on E. Concho/Veteran’s Memorial Drive; the first left after the Chamber of Commerce & Women’s Club. Go straight toward the beach. Shortly the road will become Seabreeze. The Bay Education Center is at 121 Seabreeze; on the right just before the entrance to Rockport Beach Park. From the south: Take Business 35 toward Rockport. South of town, bear right onto Hwy 70. Stay on Hwy 70, following signs for the Chamber of Commerce. Turn right at E Concho/Veteran’s Memorial Drive. (This will be just before the Women’s Club and Chamber of Commerce.) Go straight toward the beach. Shortly the road will become Seabreeze. The Bay Education Center is at 121 Seabreeze; on the right just before the entrance to Rockport Beach Park.

Barnhart Ranch & Nature Retreat

The GPS address: 8212 FM 883, Berclair, 78107.

From Rockport/ANWR area: Drive North on I-35 to Tivoli. At Tivoli, turn left onto FM 239 and drive appx. 33 miles. At intersection of US Hwy 183, turn right (north) to Goliad. At intersection of US 59, turn left and drive appx. 18 miles to Berclair. At Berclair, turn right onto FM 883 (see Country Store on left, baseball diamond on right). Drive 8.2 miles. The ranch’s bright green gate will be on your right. Enter gate and take caliche-topped road to your immediate left. You’ll pass Indian Creek, pond, cross a cattleguard. We’ll gather at the guest house compound.

Nueces Delta Preserve

GPS address: 3410 Hwy 77 Odem, TX 78370.

From Rockport: Take TX Hwy 188 west toward Sinton. Just before you get to Sinton, turn right on TX 89 to bypass Sinton. When you intersect US 77, turn left to go south on 77. Stay on 77 to Odem. Follow directions from Odem. From all counties north of Aransas: Take US 77 south through Sinton and into Odem; follow directions from Odem.

From Odem: From the intersection of FM 631 and US Hwy 77 in Odem, go 2.1 miles south on 77. Turn left just past the Angelita Estates into the Nueces Delta Preserve. The entrance to the Preserve is right next to Gatz Rock Yard, which is easier to see from the highway. You will go through an archway that says McGregor Ranch. If the gate is closed, please wait there. If it’s open, follow the road over the railroad track. (It is an active track, so watch for trains!) Take a left at the T in the road and go up the hill to the Education Center.

Museum of the Coastal Bend, Victoria

The Museum of the Coastal Bend at Victoria College is located at 2200 E Red River St Victoria, TX at the corner of Ben Jordan and Red River.

Victoria Educational Gardens

VEG is located at 333 Bachelor Drive by the old Aviation Control Tower at Victoria Regional Airport. Take Hwy. 59N and turn left on Foster Field Drive, turn left at Aviation Circle, turn right at Piper Street, turn left on Hanger Drive and you will see Victoria Educational Gardens and the Officer’s Club on the left before you reach the new restored Aviation Control Tower. Alternate directions: As you approach Victoria, take Business 59 and turn onto Big Bend Drive. Turn left on Waco Circle, which will dead-end at Victoria Educational Gardens.

Texas Marine Education Center, Palacios

The TMEC is located at 102 Marine Center Drive  Palacios, TX 77465.

From south of Palacios, take TX Hwy 35 north. Turn right onto TX 35 BUS E. Take the first right onto Co Rd 321/Marine Center Dr. Take the first left, and the TMEC will be on the left. From north of Palacios, follow TX Hwy 35 through town and then turn left onto TX 35 BUS E and follow directions above.

The Aquarium at Rockport Harbor

ARH is located at 702 Navigation Cir, Rockport, TX 78382

From south of Rockport, take TX Hwy 35 Bypass to the FM 1069 exit. At stop sign after the exit, turn right onto E Market St. After 0.4 miles, take the 3rd left onto S Austin St. In 0.1 mi, turn right onto Veterans Memorial Dr and then slight right onto Navigation Cir. Take the 1st right to stay on Navigation Cir. Turn right onto Navigation Cir/Veterans Memorial Drive. Destination will be on the right. From north of Rockport/Fulton, head south on TX-35 S toward Broadway St/Farm to Market 3036. Travel through town on TX-35 BUS S, which becomes Broadway. When you approach the Rockport Harbor, turn left onto Chamber Dr. Turn left onto Veterans Memorial Drive. Destination will be on the right.

Brackenridge Park and Campground

Take U. S. Highway 59 to Edna, then State Highway 111 South for approximately 7 miles to Brackenridge Recreation Complex. Once you turn onto Brackenridge Parkway from Hwy 111 you will continue down into the park and take a right before the soccer field. This road will lead you directly to the Marina Building.

From the south: Take US-77 N toward Victoria. Stay straight to go onto US-77-BR. Merge onto US-59-BR N/US-77-BR N/SW Moody Street toward Victoria. Turn LEFT onto W Stayton Avenue, the next street after W Power Avenue. Stayton Ave goes through a residential area into Riverside Park. Turn slight left onto Memorial Drive. The Zoo is at 110 Memorial Drive on the right.

From the east/north: Take US-59 S toward Victoria. Merge onto US-59-BR S toward Telferner/Victoria. Turn slight left onto N Moody Street/US-59-BR/US-77-BR just past N Glass Street. Take the 1st right onto W Stayton Avenue and follow directions above.

TPWD Coastal Fisheries Field Facility

From the intersection of TX-35 and TX-185, travel southeast to Seadrift, and continue on TX-185 to Port O’Connor. Turn right onto 16th Street and drive to the end at the water. The Coastal Fisheries building and parking will be on your right.

Fennessey Ranch

The entrance to Fennessey Ranch is located at FM 2678 Bayside, TX 78340. From the intersection of U.S. Hwy 77 and FM 774 in Refugio, travel east on 774 1.4 miles to the blinking yellow light at the intersection of 774 and FM 2678. Travel south 4.5 to the Fennessey Ranch sign and entrance on the right. From Port Lavaca, travel TX Hwy 35 to the intersection with FM 774 and turn right onto 774. Travel approximately 20 miles to the intersection with 2678 and follow directions above. From Hwy 35 N Bypass & W Market St/FM 1069 in Rockport, travel FM 1069 5.6 miles to TX Hwy 188 and turn right. Travel approximately 7 miles to the intersection of 188 and 136. Turn right onto 136 and travel 10 miles and continue on FM 2678 for 5.1 miles to the Fennessey Ranch sign and gate on your left.
